The legacy of Anglo-Saxon place names.

As well as reconstructing dwelling houses, the other archaeological experiments carried out on the site cover a wide range of topics from growing crops and rearing animals, to monitoring decay and insect populations.

The various reconstructed "anglo-saxon" houses within the complex. Having viewed the artefacts from long before the time of the Anglo-Saxons, the visitor may now proceed to view the reconstructed anglo-saxon village. As the Anglo-Saxons were the first English speaking people, West Stow, dating from before 450 AD, can be thought of as
"The first English village".
